A Creationist wins a Teaching Award!
NC State’s Van Dyke Receives UNC Award for Excellence in Teaching!
The guy is really nice and the students love him. He teaches his mycology class in a rote-memorization manner, with pictures and stories about cool fungi, but absolutely no evolutionary glue to put all those pieces of trivia into a coherent story.
He sometimes teaches a senior honors class on the Evolution vs. Creationism debate and assigns the readings and leads the sessions in a way that biases the students towards Creationism. I know some of the students who took it and were angry about it. I also know some students who bought the nonsense bait, hook and sinker.
So, does being "nice" makes one deserve to be awarded a prestigious teaching award?
