New History Of Marriage

Stephanie Coontz has written a ground-breaking study about the institution of marriage called MARRIAGE, A HISTORY: FROM OBEDIENCE TO INTIMACY OR HOW LOVE CONQUERED MARRIAGE. It goes from the marital intrigues of ancient Babylon to the current debates over the meaning and future of marriage.

She will be reading from her book and signing at Quail Ridge Books in about 10 days, on Wednesday, June 8 at 7 pm. I hope I can make it, as I think and write about the topic a lot. I hope I'll have money by then to actually buy the book, read it, compare it to E.J. Graff's "What Is Marriage For" and write a review here.
